Layered Ice Cream Dessert Recipe

layer crushed Oreos

Start off by crushing a package or sandwich style cookies with 1/2 cup melted butter. Press into the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan.

add ice cream filling

Mix together 1 regular size ice cream box with a small Cool Whip until thoroughly blended. I prefer the Peppermint or Mint Chip, but any will be delicious.

Note: The Peppermint makes a beautiful Christmas dessert.

spread evenly and freeze

Spread ice cream mixture evenly over cookie crust. Put in the freeze until frozen (1-2 hours).

Fudgy Ice Cream Topping

Spoon on the decadent fudgy ice cream topping

In a saucepan mix the fudgy topping by combining the following over medium low heat:

  • ½ cup butter

  • 4 oz unsweeted baking chocolate

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 12 oz evaporated milk

  • 1 teas vanilla

spread evenly and freeze

Allow the mixture to cool. {If it is more than slightly warm it will melt the ice cream as you pour it on top.} After 1 hour or so, spread evenly over ice cream mixture.

see how pretty this dessert casserole looks

Put the layered ice cream dessert back into the freeze until set, another 1-2 hours.

This is a family favorite recipe; I pick this over cake every year!

Cut and serve while still frozen. This is a very rich, fudgy dessert that will become a fast favorite at your house!
