Weather Unit #3 – Severe Storms & Emergencies

Teach preschool -2nd graders about severe storms and emergencies #homeschool #science #preschool

This is Week #3 in our Weather Unit using my {free} Weather Unit along with hands on activities!

tornado in a bottle

We made a tornado in a bottle. This was impossible to photograph, but it looked really cool! We filled a bottle 3/4 up with water, added several drops dish detergent, and some glitter (to make the tornado more visible). It was pretty cool and Goofy kept making tornados all day long!

free weather worksheets

The kids learned some weather words and Goofy practiced writing the words (sheet included in {free} Weather Pack)emergency suitcase

We made a cut & paste Disaster Survival Suitcase and talked about why we needed each of these things. I took the kids to our basement and showed them where our kit was – food, clothes, tp, first aid kit, and 1 galloon of water per person per day (3 days worth). Do you have one?

We also had emergency drills so our kids knew what to do in the case of a fire or tornado. We did several scenarios to help them use their critical thinking skills.

We read some good books on clouds and weather (see below for titles).
