Jump & Spell (Hands on Spelling Activity)

Get your child moving and practicing his/her spelling list with this hands-on spelling  activity involving the whole body-- Jump and Spell!  It is perfect for your kinesthetic learner!  This activity will work for any spelling list and grade level in your homeschool.

Jump & Spell - What a FUN hands on spelling activity for elementary age kids in kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade, and 4th grade). Perfect for homeschool, homework, and summer learning for kids.

We still homeschool part of the summer-- keeping up with spelling, reading, and math are just a must in my book!

We will enjoy a nice month long break soon, but now that it has finally gotten warmer here in the Midwest, we have been taking our school work outside!

Outdoor Spelling Activity

One activity that my son has enjoyed and even... requested!! {which doesn't happen much!}, is this Jump and Spell Spelling activity.  I think he enjoys the nice break from pen and paper, which let's face it-- can be tediously boring!!  And since he is like any other child his age who likes to move, this activity is a winner!

After introducing his spelling list in the beginning of the week, we take a day or two to practice using tiles or pen and paper, then we move to the driveway!

If you have a kinesthetic learner and/or a child who needs to move, this activity will be much loved!

On a large open space such as your driveway, write the letters of the alphabet using chalk-- not too small and not too far apart.... remember your child will need to be able to jump from letter to letter!

Once the letters are written, break out that spelling list.  Simply call out a spelling word to your child and have him/her jump from letter to letter to spell the word.

Now go outside and Jump and Spell!
