Here is our favorite Christmas Ornament Craft we made last year.
I just LOVE the finished results!
The Star Christmas Ornament was fun and simple to make with stunning results. It is now a favorite ornament on our tree and I imagine it will be for years to come. Plus it would make a great kid made gift for Grandparents.
Star Ornament Craft for Kids
We used the DIY White Clay Recipe from The Imagination Tree. You only need to make sure you have two ingredients – Cornstarch & Baking Soda. We also decided to put in some white glitter – it was the perfect touch!
Isn’t the white glitter so pretty. And don’t worry, once it is cooked in it will not rub off on things or hands!
I love how white this recipe. It rolls out perfectly and looks so shimmery and perfect for our star ornaments.
We used our nesting star cookie cutters. You want a medium size star with the smallest star you have to cut out the middle.
We put all our start cutouts on a parchment paper lined cookie sheet.
The kids pressed perler beads (yep, we got the mega pack to use with our 5 Perler Bead Christmas Crafts for Kids) into the small hearts to decorate them. It was such a simple, beautiful way to decorate these stars. The kids loved helping.
Hint: Leave some stars pretty and white. It makes a beautiful contrast on your tree!
The stars with the start cut out in the middle we filled with perler beads. Then we baked all of them at 200 F for 50 minutes. We removed the small stars, turned up the oven to 375 F and continued cooking the perler bead filled stars for an additional 15 minutes to get them perfectly melted.
Allow them to cool on the cookie tray before moving. They will slip right off the parchment paper.
Here is a sampling of our finished ornaments. I love them all! The plain ones are so beautifully white, simple, and just the right amount of shimmer. The small star decorated with perler beads is so sweet.
But my favorite are the perler bead filled stars! The ones to the left were melted for 15-20 minutes as apposed to 10 of the ones to the right. I think the ones that are melted more are prettier.
You can easily hang the ornaments with an ornament hook. Aren’t they just the prettiest, most original Christmas Ornament Craft.
