Young children's job is to PLAY!
Here is a fun way for kids to explore color, rainbows and play at the same time. This painting with cars activity is great fun for Toddler, Preschool, and Kindergarten age kids.
This would be fun on its own or as part of a spring, St. Patrick's Day, or color themed unit.
Preschool Painting Activity
When setting up this activity make sure you do it on a washable surface or cover your table because most kids will get really into this activity and the cars could end up driving crazy all over.
On your covered surface put a blob of each rainbow colored paint down the side of a large white paper. Then we had one car per color blob.
Now it’s time for the fun part. Kids will drive over the paint and over the paper. For our activity we were making rainbows for a Spring / St. Patrick's Day theme.
You could make a very interesting picture by encouraging kids to drive around on the paper any way they want to.
My preschooler thought this activity was GREAT! She loved the unique way of painting , the texture, seeing the unique track patterns she made and creating her own unique rainbow.
Big brother and sister were both eager to get their hands on some cars to paint too.
Educational Twist
Write letters, numbers, or sight words on the piece of paper. Then tell your child to drive the blue hotwheel to the letter A (or word "is", number 5). This is great for reinforcing lots of concepts while making a fun, colorful project too!
Ever kid should have the chance to paint in a fun way like this!
