Christmas Math
Teaching Division:
Division can cause such stress for kids, even if they previously excelled in math. If this is the case for your kids, you may want to spend some time going back to the basics.
Here are some ideas to get you started:
Explore division with math stories. This post includes tons of fun and engaging stories that you can use to think about division and make it relatable for kids. Plus, they can start great math conversations and help kids think about it in a new way.
Show the connection between multiplication and division. If your kids are struggling with division, chances are they are not as familiar and comfortable with multiplication facts as they should be.
If that's the case, spend a couple of days really nailing down the multiplication facts with them (here are lots of fun ideas to get you started) and then help them see the inverse relationship between multiplication and division.
Once they better understand what division means and how it relates to multiplication, making sense of the division algorithm will be a little bit easier.
Division Worksheets
When your kids are ready, print out these fun and super easy to use "color by number" pages! All you need are the printed worksheets (download below) and a box of crayons or markers.
This download includes 4 different coloring pages, featuring single digit division practice.
To complete them, kids solve each of the division problems on the picture.
They then color the various parts of the picture according to the key at the top of the page.
Please note that not every part of each picture has a math problem, and therefore not everything has a specific color designation. They can just color the rest of the parts however they'd like.
This is partly because some sections are too small to fit a problem, but also so there are not too many problems on the page. As I said, this is supposed to be a fun review, not stressful or overwhelming.
So if you are looking for quick and easy ways to review important math concepts this December before taking a (much needed) break, I hope these color by number division pages are just the thing!
