I love doing crafts with tissue paper. There's so many ways to use it! We recently did a tissue paper dragonfly craft and just love the way it turned out, so we were excited to use a similar method to make some beautiful yes simple butterflies.
Butterfly Crafts for Preschool
Materials:
- butterfly printable template (outline I used or various templates at bottom of post)
- black crayon
- tissue paper in different colors
- scissors
- school glue (and a bit of water)
- small bowl or plate
- paint brush
Print the butterfly template then cut out tissue paper in a few different shapes: rectangle, square, oval, circle, and triangle.
HINT: Stack the tissue paper to cut many shapes at a time.
First, use a black crayon to make designs on your butterfly wings.
Next, spread some glue across the top of the butterfly
Begin to lay tissue paper on top of the glue to fill in the butterfly shape. Don't worry if the tissue paper goes over the black lines you drew, they will be revealed later more in a later step.
Continue until the wings are deigned to your liking. It's OK if the edges aren't stuck down at this point, because that comes next.
After the wings are filled in, it is time to use the thinner glue in the bowl. Use a paint brush with the glue to smooth the tissue paper pieces pieces and edges down.
HINT: I also put some glue in a shallow bowl and added just a little bit of water to make it more spreadable for use with a paintbrush.
You'll see that as you paint the watery glue over the tissue paper, the black lines that were drawn earlier are seen again and has a really neat effect.
Let dry completely, and then cut the butterfly out.
Isn't it pretty!?
