FREE Sight Word Peacock

We are big fans of animals and trips to the zoo over here so we have taken some inspiration from our peacock friends at the zoo and created a sight word activity. And to make this activity even better it is totally editable so that you can work on sight words that are appropriate for your family. This activity is great for pre-k, kindergarten, and first-grade kids.

Sight Words

There are two kinds of sight word:

  1. High-frequency words (words that show up in text often)

  2. Phonetically irregular words (words that you can’t necessarily sound out.)

Practicing and mastering sight words allows our kids to read new text with more fluidity and confidence because they aren’t stumbling and having to sound out every single word.

This peacock sight word activity is a fun way to work on reading sight words.

Instructions

  • Download the FREE Peacock Sight Word activity (below)

  • Use the sight words that I have added or edit the text to include sight words that your child is working on.

  • Cut out the feathers.

  • Match and glue the feathers to the half circle of the peacock based on the sight words.

  • Glue the peacock body in the center of the feathers.

Tips:

  • You can laminate this activity and add velcro instead of glue to make it multi-use

  • You can leave the sight words off the template, laminate it, and use dry erase markers to write in the sight words so that you can constantly change the words that you’re working on.
