I came across the concept of this game while reviewing my son's spelling list.  Since we are trekking around the US learning different regions and states within the US , I thought the SNAP! geography games would be perfect to review the 50 States.

And don't games make reviewing/ learning new concepts fun?!

To set up our own US Geography SNAP Game, you'll need:

  • 53 Popsicle sticks

  • Empty Can

  • Map of 50 States

  • Laminating pocket

  • Dry erase marker

  • Sharpie pen

  • Timer

Prior to playing this fun geography review game, you'll need to write a name of a US State on a Popsicle stick.  On the three Popsicle sticks left over, you will write the word, "SNAP!"  Print out a blank map of the United States and either laminate it or put it in a laminating pocket.

As an element of self correction, I broke the colored Popsicle sticks into regions-- so orange were the New England States, Yellow were Southern States, etc.  You could color in the map to match the colored Popsicle sticks, too.

When your materials are ready, it is time to play!  Place all the Popsicle sticks in a can. Grab a stopwatch or your phone to use as a timer.  Give your child a dry erase marker and now it is review time.

The object of this game is to correctly find the most states in a minute.  At the start of the timer, your child will grab a Popsicle stick, find the state, and check it off.  Grab another Popsicle stick and so on....

However, if your child pulls out a Popsicle stick that says, "SNAP!" your child must erase all the states he/she have found and return the Popsicle sticks back to the can and start over.

But hurry up... you only have one minute!  When the time runs out, count how many states you were able to find!

My son really enjoyed this fast-paced review game!  After he played a few times, he suggested I play, too!  And I didn't do to bad, if I say so myself!

Have fun reviewing the 50 States with US Geography SNAP!
