Christmas is a wonderful time of the year, as the song says. I look forward to this time of year every single year. I love everything to do with the holiday. I also love sharing fun experiences and memories with my kids to celebrate Christmas. This year, we've been on an ornament-making kick, which includes this project, jingling silver bells.
I got the idea for this project from the classic Christmas song "Silver Bells." These jingling silver bells really ring, and are made from recycled egg cartons. This was one of my favorite recycled craft projects to date!
Christmas Craft for Kids
You need just a few things to make your silver bells:
- Egg cartons
- Scissors
- Chenille stems
- Jingle bells
- Ribbon
- Paintbrushes
- Silver paint
Cut off all of the egg carton cup that doesn't make a complete circle. Our egg cartons actually have a line marking this point, which made it much easier to cut. At any rate, you want the egg cups to look like little bells.
Poke a hole in the very center of the egg carton.
Paint the egg cups silver on the inside and out. Let the paint dry.
When the paint is dry, cut a 4-inch long piece of chenille stem. Thread the stem through the top of the jingle bell and up through the hole in the egg carton. This will hold the bell in place. Tie the ends of the chenille stem together to create a loop that you can use to ring the bell or hang it from the Christmas tree.
Tie a bow around the top of the egg cup bell and you're done!
The kids were so pleased at how easy this project was, yet how adorable it looks when finished. They spent most of their day ringing the bells at one another, which made for a festive-sounding afternoon.
