One of my favorite dishes is the Strawberry Pretzel Salad.
I love the sweet and salty contrast – it’s amazing! But as we were working on getting rid of highly processed food and food dyes I wanted to make a strawberry pretzel dessert with no cool whop and no Jell-O.
This recipe does justice to the classic recipe without the guilt. YUMMY!
Pretzel Crust Recipe
I love this slightly salty pretzel crust recipe. It add such a great sweet and salty contrast to most desserts.
Start by grinding up pretzels in a food processor until you have about 2 cups.
Now add 3 Tablespoons sugar and 1/2 cup softened butter.
When it is well combined press into the bottom of a pie pan. It should be easy to press together.
This strawberry pretzel dessert is perfect for summer when you have tons of delicious, seasonal, and inexpensive strawberries. Wash and remove the hull of a container of strawberries.
Put them in the food processor until smooth.
Once the strawberries are smooth, add in 1 cup granulated sugar and 8 oz cream cheese until well blended.
Note: If you want an extra intense read color try using this natural food coloring that doesn’t use food dye.
In a large bowl pour not quite one pint of heavy whipping cream. Using beaters whip until you get a firm consistency. (Don’t whip too much or it will get runny again)
Now add the pureed strawberries into the heavy whipping cream and mix until combined.
Spoon strawberry mixture into the pretzel crust. (you are going to love the sweet and salty combination).
Put pie in the freeze for about 30 minutes or until set. (although frozen would be good too)
The pieces should easily cut and pop out onto plates. This stuff is A-MA-ZING!
